Savannah Family Owned Restaurant

The ShellHouse Restaurant is a locally family owned seafood restaurant conveniently located off I-95 at exit 94 in Savannah, Georgia.  In business for over thirty years, The Garrett Family has remained consistent in their commitment of only serving the best fresh quality seafood served in heaping portions that they originally established in 1983 on Wilmington Island at Turner’s Creek, now called Hogan’s Marina.  That first restaurant tragically caught fire and the building was a total loss after only six months, but undeterred The Garrett’s sought another location and hence the purchase of the vacant “Oasis of Georgia” in 1987.

This oasis was once served Georgia as its welcome center.   Work was underway to transform the once hub of visitors into a place for visitors to grub; luckily with such a large close family and amazing friends this task was done rather swiftly.   With sons, parents, aunt, uncles, cousins, and friends all working on September 24, 1988 the doors of this oasis were now The ShellHouse Restaurant.

Our Food

The items on our menu are traditional Southern South Georgia dishes that have been served in The Garrett and Davis Families for generations.  Our kitchen managers have been entrusted with upholding the integrity of the all the delicious dishes and entrees that leave the kitchen.  Our crab stew, gumbo, red rice, grits, potato salad, cole slaw, green beans, shrimp butter, cocktail sauce, ranch dressing and peach cobbler are made fresh every afternoon.  Our Key Lime Pie and Slap Yo Mamma Cake are specialty items from a Florida baker.  We constantly monitor all of the food that comes into the restaurant.  We make efforts to use fresh produce and product that is locally grown or produced in the Coastal Empire, Low Country and surrounding area.
